1:1 Dog Behavior Work in San Francisco and everywhere online

Personalized, ongoing behavior support for complex dogs and the people who are dedicated to helping them.

Lindsay is a certified dog behavior consultant serving San Francisco, the Bay Area, and dog guardians everywhere online. 1:1 Dog Behavior Work is a force free, science based approach to understanding and supporting behaviorally complex dogs and the people who love them. If you are dealing with reactivity, anxiety, fear, aggression, or any behavior that feels overwhelming and hard to navigate, this is where you find out exactly what working together looks like, what you get, and how to get started.

Why 1:1 and why behavior work, not just training

There is a meaningful difference between dog training and dog behavior work, and it matters a lot when you are dealing with a complex dog.

Training, in the traditional sense, is about teaching skills. Sit, stay, loose leash walking. And while skill building is part of what we do together, it is a small part. Behavior work goes much deeper. It looks at why your dog is doing what they are doing, what is driving it, what in their environment, their history, their health and their daily life is contributing to the picture, and what needs to change for things to genuinely get better.

This is why I work exclusively in private 1:1 sessions. The dogs I work with are not going to benefit from a group class. They need someone who is looking at their specific situation, their specific needs, and building a plan around that. And the people I work with deserve the same level of attention. Because helping you understand your dog, feel confident in what you are doing, and actually enjoy your life together again is just as important as anything we work on with your dog.

I am a CTBC certified trainer and behavior consultant, a CPDT-KA, and a Fear Free Certified Professional. My methods are force free, fear free, and rooted in positive reinforcement and science based training, which means we are never using pain, intimidation or punishment. Ever. What we are using is evidence, empathy, and a deep respect for both ends of the leash.

How it works

Step one: the initial consultation

Everything starts here. Before we can build a plan, I need to really understand your dog. Their history, their current behaviors, their environment, their health, what has been tried before, what has worked and what has not, and what your life actually looks like day to day. The initial consultation is a 90 minute Zoom session where we go through all of it together. You get to ask every question you have been sitting on. I get to start building a real picture of your dog and what they need.

After our session, you receive your fully personalized plan with clear, actionable first steps you can start using straight away. You also receive a summary of our meeting, a curated resource guide, your digital log book, and my MEET Your Dog’s Needs program guide. It is a lot, in the best possible way.

Step two: ongoing 1:1 behavior work sessions

This is where the real work happens. In our follow up sessions we work through your plan together, troubleshoot anything that has come up, adjust what needs adjusting, and build out skills and strategies as your dog progresses. Every session is private, every session is specific to where you and your dog are right now, and every session is an hour with a certified dog behavior specialist who is entirely focused on you both.

Between sessions you are encouraged to send videos for feedback, reach out with questions by email, and use your log book to track what you are noticing. You are supported throughout the process, not just during the hour we spend together.

Step three: building your dog's care team

One of the things that sets my approach apart is that I see behavior work as a collaborative effort. I work alongside your veterinarian, your veterinary behaviorist, and any other professionals involved in your dog’s care. If you do not have that team in place yet, helping you build it is part of what I do.

Good outcomes for complex dogs almost always require more than one person in the dog’s corner, and I want to make sure your dog has everyone they need.

Who this is for

This service is for people who are genuinely committed to their dog. Not looking for a quick fix, not hoping someone else will sort it out for them, but ready to learn, ready to put in the work, and ready to celebrate the small wins along the way because they know that real change takes time.

The dogs I work with include those described as reactive, aggressive, anxious, fearful, shy, sensitive, shut down, or just behaviorally complex in ways that do not fit neatly into a category. I also work with senior dogs navigating behavioral changes that come with age, and dogs with medical complexity that affects their behavior.

Some of the specific behaviors I work with include on leash reactivity, barking and lunging, snapping and biting, resource guarding, separation anxiety, noise sensitivities, hyper arousal, fearfulness, handling issues, jumping, and more. I do not have restrictions on dogs with bite histories, and I do not write dogs off based on a label.

This is not the right fit if you are looking for a basic manners course, puppy socialization classes, or a one-off session. The work I do requires ongoing commitment, and the results reflect that.

Lindsay is the BEST dog trainer

“I can say first hand Lindsay is an amazing trainer and my dog has become even more perfect because of her. Unlike any other person I spoke to, I received a wealth of information and a personalized plan after our first meeting. It was like someone gave me a handbook to help with this whole new way of life. We have made such amazing progress and I have witnessed unbelievable growth in my puppy that I can directly connect to Lindsay’s training. Our whole family is thankful and grateful we made this choice.”

“Lindsay brought the most calming, encouraging, friendly and non judgmental energy into every training session at a time when stress levels were at a high dealing with Fig’s reactivity. She led by example and taught me how to better support Fig’s anxiety and reactivity by managing my own energy and advocating for Fig’s needs. She earned the nickname Zen Master because she helped me rebuild my relationship with Fig so that we were more connected, centered and attuned to each other. Endlessly grateful for Lindsay’s guidance.”

“We loved meeting you and already feel like conceptually I’m more aligned with why I’m doing what I’m doing. Thank you for your energy and all this really helpful information.”

Questions people ask before booking

202602 gdhd 08
Do I have to be there for the sessions, or can you just work with my dog?
Your presence is not just welcome, it is essential. The goal of this work is for you to understand your dog, build confidence in how you support them, and grow your relationship together. We are rarely just working on training skills in isolation. We are looking at management, enrichment, the home environment, your dog’s medical picture, and so much more. These sessions are just as much for you as they are for your dog.
How many sessions will I need?
It genuinely depends on your dog and your situation. Most people start with sessions every other week and then move to once a month as things progress. Some people need more frequent check ins to begin with, others find they need less over time. There is no upper limit on sessions and you are welcome to purchase packages again whenever you need them. I am here for the long term, not just the beginning.
I already have a training plan from my veterinary behaviorist. Do I still need to book the initial consultation?
Yes, the initial consultation is a required first step for everyone. That said, I am genuinely thrilled when clients are already working with a veterinary behaviorist, and incorporating their plan into our work together is absolutely something we do. My approach as a certified dog behavior consultant goes well beyond training, so even with a plan in place there is a lot of ground to cover. Collaboration with your existing care team is a core part of how I work.
Will you work with my dog even if they have a bite history or have been labelled aggressive?
Yes, without hesitation. I do not have restrictions on dogs with bite histories and I do not write dogs off based on a label. I work with some of the most complex behavioral cases in San Francisco and the Bay Area, always with safety for everyone as an absolute priority.
Why do you work online rather than coming to my home?
For reactive, anxious and fearful dogs, having a stranger enter the home is often genuinely harmful to the work we are trying to do. My presence alone can cause significant stress for a dog who is already struggling, and that stress sets back progress before it has even begun. Starting online means your dog stays in their safe environment while we get to work on understanding what they need. It is the gold standard of care for dogs with these kinds of behaviors, and something I feel strongly about. You can read more about why in my blog. In person sessions are available for established clients when it is appropriate.
